Awarded 95 points and a Gold medal in the New World Wine Awards. Similar in style to Merlot, Carmenere (car-men-nair) is originally from Bordeaux in France. Fortunately, Carmenere vines ended up in Chile, as the wines are stunning. Here is a great example, with aromas of raspberry and dark red fruits, the flavours are an exciting array of pepper, truffle, liquorice, blueberry and cloves. Rich and savoury with persistent flavour, it’s from just north of Santiago. If you are looking for life after Merlot, here is a great choice.
