Privacy Policy

Last Updated: 23 August 2026

Overview

shoparound (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services.

shoparound is designed as a retailer price comparison tool for New Zealand shoppers. You can use core price-comparison features without an account. Selected retailers and some display preferences remain on your device. If you create an account, your account details, selected retailers, shopping list, rewards cards, and favourite products are stored by Shoparound so they can be used across devices.

Browser Extension

The shoparound browser extension runs only when you open it on an explicitly supported retailer domain. To identify the product you are viewing, it temporarily reads the current product-page URL, retailer product code, product title, structured product data, and an unambiguous displayed price when one is available. It sends the minimum product details needed for a comparison to shoparound over HTTPS. The extension does not run a passive content script, collect your general browsing history, or operate on unsupported domains.

If you are signed in to shoparound, the extension can use your existing website session to show your selected retailers and, only when you choose the relevant control, update your favourite products or shopping list. Your browser sends the session cookie directly to shoparound, but the extension does not read, copy, or store that cookie or your sign-in credentials. The extension stores only your popup-or-sidebar display preference locally on your device.

The extension sends limited operational events so we can detect comparison failures and unsupported pages. These events contain only an allowlisted event name, supported retailer, popup-or-sidebar surface, coarse result, and extension version. They do not include product or account identifiers, product names, page URLs, prices, selected stores, cookies, or a persistent installation identifier. shoparound does not sell this information, use it for personalised advertising, or allow the extension to execute remotely hosted code.

Information We Collect

Depending on the features you use, we may process a limited set of information needed to provide search, location-aware store sorting, and shopping list functionality.

  • Account information such as your name, email address, and profile image
  • Authentication information, including linked sign-in providers, passkeys, active sessions, IP addresses, and browser details
  • Location data (when permitted) to show nearby store prices
  • Shopping list data that you create and, when signed in, synchronize to your account or intentionally share with another Shoparound account
  • Retailers selected for price comparisons and shopping-list calculations
  • Rewards card names, types, and barcode numbers that you save
  • Products that you mark as favourites
  • Your optional choices for product updates, savings emails, and shopping tips; when you changed those choices; and whether they have been synchronized with our email provider
  • Price-alert settings, including the watched product, target price, alert status, and previous alert delivery details
  • Push-notification registration details, including an Expo push token, device platform, a generic device label, and when that registration was last used
  • Search history for price comparisons
  • Support messages, including the name, email address, topic, and details you choose to provide through the support form
  • Device information and cookies for website functionality

How We Use Your Information

We use this information only to operate and improve the service you are actively using. For example, location permission lets us order stores by proximity, while saved product data helps maintain your shopping list between visits.

  • To provide price comparison services
  • To create, secure, and maintain your account
  • To synchronize your shopping list across signed-in devices
  • To let you privately collaborate on a shopping list with people you select
  • To synchronize your selected retailers across signed-in devices
  • To synchronize your rewards cards across signed-in devices
  • To keep your favourite products available across signed-in devices
  • To monitor prices and deliver notifications you explicitly enable
  • To send requested account verification, password reset, and deletion emails
  • To send the product updates, savings emails, and shopping tips you have explicitly chosen to receive
  • To respond to support, product-data, privacy, and accessibility enquiries
  • To show relevant retailer locations
  • To improve our services and user experience
  • To maintain and optimize our website performance

Data Storage

Anonymous shopping lists, rewards cards, and preferences are stored locally on your device. When you sign in, your selected retailers, shopping list, and rewards cards are merged into and synchronized with your account in our PostgreSQL database. Favourite products, account records, linked sign-in methods, passkeys, and active sessions are also stored on our servers. If you enable price alerts, the watched product, target price, delivery history, and registered push-device details are stored with your account. Notification delivery history is retained for up to 30 days to confirm delivery, diagnose rejected device registrations, and retry alerts safely. Shoparound does not send your live device location to its servers; location is used on your device to calculate and display nearby stores.

When you send a support request, Shoparound stores the details you provide so an administrator can review the message and reply to you. Do not include passwords, payment-card details, or other information that is not needed to investigate your request.

Shopping-list sharing is private and invitation-based; Shoparound does not create a public link. The email address you enter is stored with the invitation for up to 14 days. Shoparound does not tell the sender whether that address has an account. A recipient must sign in with the invited address and accept before they can see or edit the list. They can then see the owner's display name. The owner can see each accepted member's display name and account email so they can manage access. Members may leave at any time. Deleting your account removes invitations addressed to you, removes lists you own for all members, and removes your access to lists owned by someone else.

If the mobile app encounters an unexpected error, it keeps one sanitized diagnostic report on your device. The report contains the app and operating-system versions, the time of the error, and limited technical error details with URLs, email addresses, and common session secrets removed. It is not uploaded automatically. You can choose to review and share it with support from the app settings, after which the local report is cleared.

If you clear your browser storage or use private browsing modes, some saved preferences and locally held items may be removed. Clearing browser storage does not delete server-held account information; use the account deletion control for that purpose.

Authentication and Service Providers

Shoparound may use Resend to deliver transactional account email and optional marketing email. We add your name, email address, and subscription state to Resend's contact service only when you choose to receive marketing email. You can turn marketing email off in your account or use the unsubscribe link in any marketing message. If you choose Google or Apple sign-in, that provider processes the authentication request under its own privacy terms. Provider credentials are linked to your Shoparound account, but Shoparound does not receive your Google or Apple password. When you enable price alerts, Shoparound uses Expo's notification delivery service and the Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver the notification to your device.

Data Security

We are committed to ensuring the security of your information. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your data. Password credentials are stored as secure password hashes, passkeys use public-key credentials, and active sessions can be reviewed or revoked from your account. You should also protect your device from malware and unauthorized access.

Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information as soon as possible.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use necessary browser storage for sign-in security and features such as retailer selection and display preferences. The website also uses Google Analytics, Ahrefs Analytics, and our self-hosted Umami Analytics service to measure page use, performance, product interactions, heatmaps, and session replays so we can improve the service. Umami masks values entered into input fields in recordings.

These technologies may be used to remember settings such as retailer selection, display preferences, and authentication sessions. Authentication cookies are necessary to keep you signed in and secure account-only requests. Shoparound does not currently use advertising cookies, personalized advertising, or sell personal information. You can limit analytics technologies through your browser's privacy and cookie controls.

Legal Compliance

We strive to comply with all applicable data protection laws and regulations. If you have any concerns about our compliance with these laws, please contact us through the channels provided below.

Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites that are not owned or controlled by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites you visit.

This is especially relevant when you navigate from shoparound to retailer websites, product pages, or external services. Those destinations operate under their own terms, privacy notices, and cookie policies.

International Users

Shoparound is a New Zealand service, but some service providers may process information in other countries. Where information is disclosed outside New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to use providers and safeguards that protect it consistently with this policy and applicable New Zealand privacy law.

You have the right to:

  • Clear your local storage data at any time
