Foodstuffs’ August 2026 basket update reported mixed changes across staples
Foodstuffs’ 21 September update described annual price falls for several fresh foods alongside pressure on honey supply.

What the company reported
Foodstuffs said on 21 September 2026 that retail prices in its comparable food price index basket were 1.5% higher in August than a year earlier. The figure is the company’s own basket measure.
Its update reported lower annual prices for lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, eggs and pork. It also identified weather impacts and reduced domestic supply as reasons for higher honey prices.[1]
Keep the date and source in view
This is a look back at the August basket, reported in September. Foodstuffs has since released an update covering September. The earlier figures should not be presented as current shelf prices.
A retailer’s basket update offers context about its range. It does not establish which supermarket is cheapest for your household.[1]
Use your own list for a buying decision
Compare the pack sizes and products you intend to buy. Check local availability and the retailer’s current offer before changing a shopping plan on the strength of a past price trend.[1]
