The opening announced on 11 August

New World announced the opening of its Te Atatū supermarket on 11 August 2026. The retailer described a $50 million investment and approximately 100 local jobs.

The supermarket is owned and operated by Scott and Ashleigh Jackson, members of the Foodstuffs North Island co-operative. This article revisits the opening announcement rather than reporting a store opening today.[1]

Two floor-area figures describe different things

The release listed 3,363 square metres of total floor area and 1,579 square metres of retail space. Those measurements should not be treated as interchangeable.

The retailer described grocery, produce, butchery, seafood, bakery and deli departments, along with 136 car parks. These are details reported at opening, not a live audit of today’s layout or available products.[1]

A link with local food rescue

The owners also identified Fair Food in Avondale as the store’s food-rescue partner. The announcement connected that partnership with reducing waste and supporting local groups.

It did not quantify donations from this store or establish how much food would be rescued in future. A named partnership and a measured result are different claims.[1]

What the opening means for a shopping decision

A nearby supermarket can add another option for a regular shop or a top-up. Whether it suits your household depends on the products, quantities, transport and total cost involved.

Check current store information before travelling and compare the groceries you actually need. The opening announcement does not establish that the store is the cheapest local option or that its original hours and services remain unchanged.[1]
